Political Cartoon of the Year Award 2003
The Political Cartoon of the Year Award is a national cartoon competition in UK with representatives from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Eire. It is the only competition where cartoonists are actually judged on their work rather than on their reputation.
All the leading political cartoonists in the UK, as well as two from the USA (who also draw for British publications), submitted what, in their opinion, was their best cartoon of the year.
This year there was the largest field in the competition's history, making it this country's premier award for cartoonists.
Held on 25 November at the Economist, former Minister for Overseas Aid, Clair Short MP, presented the sterling silver 'Gillray' Goblet to winning cartoonist, Dave Brown of the Independent.
The runners up prize, the Tenniel Tankard, went to KAL of the Economist.
Third was Matt of the Daily Telegraph and fourth was Steve Bell of the Guardian, winner in 2001. .
